Home & Away
I just made a bid for a house - well a flat to be precise. It's really scary.
But I am totally fed up with sharing a flat, so it is about time.

In other news, Monday next week I'm going to Marrakesh with three of my friends, two of those I was in Konstantinopolis Byzantium Istanbul Miklagard The City with, and another friend of us.
So, if you think there is anything I must see and do there, this is the time to tell me. Also, if you really long to tell me about the book I ought to bring, no time better than the present.

ETA: Urk, if the seller/broker calls me one more time now, urging me to raise my bid I will scream. Don't they learn in broker school that some people don't like aggressive sellers and reacts negatively when wheedled, urged, - pressed - into decision? I suck at this house buying business.

That is what it was called by the vikings. Best name ever.

Yeah - I had to look that one up. Very cool.

Cooler than "Νέα Ῥώμη", but less practical than "Κωνσταντινούπολις".

Nothing beats Κωνσταντινούπολις in sheer practicality! (Exceot perhaps mummimammoupolis).

San Diego,..... still! For now anyway. Things are afoot and I should be able to move to wherever I choose very soon. Sans kitty and sans husband. Huzzah!

You may not ordinarilly read historical fiction but this guy writes like James Clavell of Shōgun fame, so perhaps it would be some light reading for you within the world the book is concerned with.

Promise me you won't fall in love with a dark-eyed stranger while you are there? It's a bit of a regular occurance in Marrakesh. Come home safe and with your heart intact. >;)

Elske,
Freja x

Too bad, for the kitty I mean, but I think you will be happier away.

No worries about dark eyed strangers, usually they are no to my taste :) And I am going to share room with all my fellow travellers so...

The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova. Libraries in Istanbul play a major part in the novel :)

I suggested this to invoke memories (I didn't want you to think that I'd misread your post)

Libraries in Istanbul - now that can't be anything but good :) (Not that I saw any...)

It's an okay flat, but the seller (or the broker) is so aggressive (which I utterly hate) that I probably will not buy it for that reason. Urk. Renting is so much easier! (But not really an option)(I'm in a parathetic mood this evening)(But there will still be room for you somewhere if you decide to visit again!).

My guide to buying a house.

Go see a lot of houses, see what they ask, sign up to get a message and ask if there are any bids. If you don't like the place, don't bid. Get an idea of what you think an apartment is worth, and what you would pay for it. When you start bidding, start low, know where you absolute limit is and if they try to pressure you beyond that, say no. Play hard, and don't care what the others might feel.

Thanks for the tips.
I'm taking my time, but I really dislike the pressing and prodding from the brokers. Are all brokers like taht or only the three I've encountered?

I think it depends on what kind of resolve you show. I didn't meet pushy brokers, or at least I didn't feel pushed by them.

Completely unrelated but I'd like to alert you to a travesty of justice going on right now in Oslo.
