Emptying the mind of questions
When I haven't been busy fattening myself on Easter food, I have been walking around looking at flats. I am getting the hang of it now I think (although I just got overbid). As you understand - life is exciting...

But I have question! I have been thinking about myths and stories lately; How some myths become the "official" version - the one that everybody knows - of the myth, and how some are only live in the margins. I guess it works for fairytales as well, our collections of fairytales are just that, collections. Editions and collections.

The fairytale collectors walked around, collecting tales. Then they decided between the versions, quite possibly did some merging, or cutting to make them to the standard they wanted them to be, before publishing them for the general consumption of the people. Here you can add layers, like a famous rewriting or a film version, becoming the main reference point for a story (I'm looking at you Disney). For some time the oral traditions and the written tradition lived side by side, but - at least in Norway the oral tradition is dead. Those who seek to revive it draw upon the written material.

What I has been pondering is whether anything has been written about the process of making this "official" versions. Or if this mechanism has a name.

I other news a cd is stuck in the cd-drive at my work computer. There is no little hole to put a paper clip. I have called and e-mailed the it-department to ask for help. I think they think I am stupid. Can I throw the computer through the window now?

The Grimms, as well as Asbjørnson & Moe, were well know for adding, taking, and generally reworking their source material.

Peter Christen Asbjørnson furnished frame-stories and embedded several collected legends at a time in them, providing some insight into the kinds of settings the tales were told, and with what effect on the listeners. En gammeldags julaften (my translation) is an example of his remixing ability. If I could find my thumbdrive with all my notes on, I could tell the name of the Irishman he learned this technique from.

I know that there were a general trend in reworking duirng the nationalromantic period. And a wish to make longer works, or cyclic works into (drumroll please) an epic. Draumkvedet and Kalevala to say the ones I am familiar with (which has led me into having doubts about Homer, but that is heresy...).

What I have been contemplating im still an unformed way is whether there have been written anything about the kind of overlying mechanics of oral culture -> written culture, and how the unwritten, or just less circulating versions, become marginalised. Or perhaps not. Since contemplations are still in a embryionic state I have a lot of different anwers to my own theories. But I'd be happy for any kind of information you have on the remixing tradition, and what was considered important!

Remember IT is there to serve you. Not the other way around. You get down to the department in person grab one by the ear and lug it to your office. While he searched for the pinhole, you take photos with your camera and send them to you email to post in L later to show how stoooopid -he- is. If I were there, I'd give him what for.

As to home buying, if you do buy a two bed place, I'm a ready-made lodge waiting to pay rent and move in. >:P I have to be persistant. It's always good to by at leat 2 bedrooms just in case times get tight money-wise and you can rent the spare room to cover about half the mortgage and bills. >:)

	Actually I'm looking at a 2 sitting rooms + 3(!) bedroom place on Monday. Although then you'll have to live with some truely horrendous wallpaper and strange interior decoration choices as well :) But in general there aren't many two bedroom places in my area, either 1 or 4 (the rich and their servants...) I'm not fussy about wallpaper and if you wanted to redecorate what the place came with, I'm a dab hand at wallpapering, painting and even a little rosemaling, if you wanted. I've decorated every house my mum has bought, as per her choices. I'm cheap and willing labour. lol. Have roller, will travel. I've also been good at keeping my own home clean, decorated and welcoming. (I've owned two houses in my time.)Your place, your choices. >:)

If it is a tower CPU, then you could remove the metal/plastic casing cover and maybe the pinhole is inside, on the cd drive?

Also, a lot of Fairy-tales were sumwhat 'x' rated in their original versions, so folks like the Brothers Grimm, sanitised them for public consumption. Actually they published the tales in both adult onoy and children's editions. The Red Ridinghood story alone, contained paedophilia, incest, rape and murder.

I even took the tower apart myself, but since it isn't strickly mine I thought it best to contact the IT department. So much for THAT idea!

I know that fairy tales where reworked, but I was wondering whether someone brilliant had thought some brilliant thought on the general transition from a pluralistic (?) oral culture to the (mostly) one-version written culture we have today.

Also, a lot of Fairy-tales were sumwhat 'x' rated in their original versions, so folks like the Brothers Grimm, sanitised them for public consumption.
And then, hundred of years later one can publish the erotic versions in one single volume so we don't have to look so hard for the porn!

	The first is all around the walls of the International Cottage of Sweden in Balboa Park. The second is my cheeseboard. The third is a template plate, that my tutor has given me to copy and practice.
